CIEE is excited to offer a new innovation program in collaboration with Hacker Exchange (HEX), an Australian based education startup launching impactful careers for future innovators, startup founders and intrapreneurs. If you’ve ever dreamed about founding your own company or leading innovation for impact, this one’s for you.

Our Virtual Global Innovation Internship, co-delivered by HEX and CIEE, combines one week of intensive, entrepreneurial skill acquisition with 7-week virtual internships at companies around the globe.

You’ll learn startup skills from Silicon Valley experts, meet world-class technologists from Tel Aviv, and network with venture capitalists in Singapore – before choosing an internship in Berlin, or in one of 20+ cities in the CIEE network! And on a personal note, you could expect to make friends with students from across the US, work on a project with peers from India and New Zealand, then have a (virtual) cup of coffee with your new professional mentor in Australia.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Part 1: Join HEX on the award-winning Discovery program. Learn job-ready innovation skillsets and mindsets, and explore global startup ecosystems with an international cohort of peers.
  • Part 2: Get ready for your 7 week global internship designed around your preferences for location and interest area. The internship portion of the program contains 200-240 internship hours in total – approximately 18-21 hours/week.

We’ll bring the experts, support, global network and the tech. You bring the talent.

The Virtual Global Innovation Internship is designed in a non-credit format. However, we can work with you, your advisor and your university to determine how we can help you achieve credit.

Hacker Exchange (HEX) Virtual Discovery Program

During week-one, get ready for an intensive curriculum focused on training up the innovators of the future so you can get to work, faster.

The Virtual Discovery program outcomes include:

  • Practicing design thinking principles to ideate a startup concept
  • Using industry market research methods to pinpoint and understand the needs of your customers
  • Learning UX and UI design standards and software to create product wireframes
  • Creating and delivering a business pitch to real investors
  • Discovering innovation trends in cities and workplaces around the world
  • Refining your personal values, presence, and leadership style

Professional Development

  • Take advantage of resume help and interviewing skills based on local business culture
  • Explore the professional working world and grow your skillset without traveling
  • Participate in coaching sessions and online workshops that will help you make the most of your internship
  • Receive two course completion certificates summarizing acquired skills and internship benefits to enhance your resume

Eligibility

Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5 to participate in the program.

There are no specific language requirements for this program.

Students must be currently enrolled in an Associate, Bachelor, or Master program and have completed a minimum of their first academic year of studies before the program. Recent graduates are also eligible to participate within 24 months of graduation. Participants are required to have access to a laptop/computer with audio capabilities. Participants are required to have reliable access to internet/WiFi.
