Program Description:
SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS & SOCIAL PRACTICES -  SUMMER PROGRAM

This 4-week program gives students the opportunity to learn and experience the Italian culture through courses that focus on food systems and sustainability. For example, topics range from the critical analysis on food systems and sustainable agriculture, to how culture and ethnicity affect dietary practices and nutrition, to the use of media and storytelling to communicate food and sustainable practices, to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to developing literacy and understand policies related to food waste.

The courses offer unique co-curricular opportunities that include a 3-day overnight field school to the south of Italy, visits to farms and food businesses, meeting with food producers, and tastings.

You have the opportunity to add a 4-week summer academic internship in various locations throughout Italy.


CREDITS
Up to 9 credits. Participants may also request for a fee an official transcript from Portland State University (PSU), our School of Record.  Please work with your home university study abroad office to assure full credit.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to undergraduate students. Particularly suitable to those interested in food studies, food systems, sustainability, environmental studies, cultural tourism, gastronomic studies, food heritage, sustainable hospitality, agribusiness, communication, nutrition and food science.
Graduate students, scholars, researchers and professionals are also encouraged to inquire.
