Program Description:
FOOD IN ITALY: SUSTAINABLE MARKETS, PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES FALL PROGRAM

This fall program is designed, promoted and managed by Gustolab International (GLi). Language Courses provider: Scuola Leonardo da Vinci Rome. The study of food is a new and interdisciplinary field linking ecology with the biological, social, and cultural sciences. It is best augmented by extended sojourns in rich and different learning environments – settings where students can observe and reflect upon differences in ecology and culture between their homes and this new place they have entered. GLi has pioneered in using the Italian peninsula as a natural laboratory for providing students with such a learning environment. In GLi’s programs the integration of coursework, fieldwork, and projects affords participants a unique perspective for engaging Italy. This engagement is driven by personal experience in markets, neighborhoods, and rural areas as well as reflection on important and timely academic issues. For our fall program these focus on issues of sustainability. This study program will assist students in understanding sustainable food supply chains in Italy through the study of its markets, products and processes.

What alumni say about their experience at Gustolab International
“As cliché as it sounds, studying abroad really does change your life. For me, Gustolab has opened my eyes to the world of incredible wine, olive oil and food production in general. Sustainability is definitely something I want to implement in my life and in my diet. Come with an open mind and allow yourself to be flown away by the Italian language, food and vital environmental issues.” A student from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
