Program Description:

Apply to the Madrid (Carlos III) program if you want to take your language class at the Middlebury program center, Sede Prim, along with one optional elective there, and your remaining courses at the Universidad Carlos III. The Getafe campus of the Carlos III hosts the social sciences, and the Leganés campus hosts engineering and computer science.

Perfecting Spanish competency through guided language immersion and facilitated social and cultural integration is what motivates students at the School in Spain. Well in advance of leaving the U.S., students are encouraged to reflect upon how they want to achieve their goals while in Spain; once in Spain, students work with staff to find ways of integrating into the Spanish language and culture by exploring their own interests.

The municipalities of Getafe and Leganés are located just 30-40 minutes south of central Madrid by train.  Its proximity allows students enrolled at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Middlebury's host institution, to experience Spanish university life while still benefiting from the cultural and social attractions of the capital.  Students live in Madrid and commute to campus each day by train
. Students enroll directly in classes with their Spanish peers in art history, economics, geography, history, law, philosophy, and political science on one campus, or in computer sciences and engineering on the other. It is possible to take one course on each campus of the Carlos III.
