Program Description:
The mission of The GREEN Program (TGP) is to educate and empower future sustainability leaders through innovative models of experiential education, travel, and adventure. With classes and internships being cancelled for students, TGP is still delivering a career-building opportunity for participants with our two-part, modified program schedule, which introduces an online course delivery and a separate travel component once it's clear to travel again. Upon completion of the course, students will receive their official transcript for 50 hours and 1.5 credits before traveling to Iceland so they can receive the credit and add the coursework to their resume.

  • Attend online lectures taught by faculty and industry experts at Reykjavik University – Iceland School of Energy focused on the topics of sustainable entrepreneurship and policy, geology, geothermal energy, hydroelectric power, and electric power systems.
  • Develop an understanding of various renewable energy technologies, its challenges and innovations in Iceland, and how it relates to global perspectives in the industry.
  • In conjunction with the Lecture Series, get started on a Capstone Project proposal for an innovative, sustainability-focused solution to a modern energy problem that will be conducted during the on-site portion of the program.
  • When it is safe to travel, embark on a custom program to experience where you will bring your classes to life and gain unparalleled access into Iceland's leading hydroelectric, geothermal, and biofuel facilities. Get up close and personal with impacts of climate change on a glacier walk. Learn about the basics of glaciology and the repercussions if we lose our planet's largest source of fresh water.
This is a modified program delivery model for our Iceland Summer 2020 & Winter 2020/2021 Programs. Take the online course between December 13, 2020 and January 10, 2021, receive your transcript from the Iceland School of Energy and put the courses on your resume. Then travel on a custom program from either May 31 - June 7, 2021 or Aug 9 - 17, 2021. Learn more here: https://thegreenprogram.members-only.online/icelandwinter-lntl
